Meet Marc
Marc is an experienced first aid instructor with a passion for practical, life-saving skills — and a career that started long before the classroom.
From the Army to the Ambulance Service
Marc began his instructing journey serving in the British Army with the Queen’s Regiment. After passing selection for the Reconnaissance Platoon, he took on the role of Platoon Medic, going on to qualify as a Regimental Medical Assistant and Unit First Aid Instructor.
Since leaving the army, Marc has continued to grow professionally — completing a range of clinical and instructor qualifications and working with the Ambulance Service to train Community First Responders. He also regularly provides medical cover at events, something he’s done for years and still enjoys today.
A Founding Member & Award Winner
In 2007, Marc co-founded Horsham Community Responders, a volunteer Community First Responder (CFR) scheme that responds to 999 calls alongside the Ambulance Service. His dedication has been recognised with several prestigious awards, including:
- Horsham District Council Local Hero
- Radio Mercury’s Emergency Service of the Year (finalist)
- SECAmb Chief Executive’s Commendations — including one specifically for training

Despite his wealth of experience, Marc’s approach remains refreshingly straightforward:

Meet Hilary
Hilary’s journey into first aid began with a simple advert — an opportunity to volunteer with the Ambulance Service as a Community First Responder (CFR). That decision set her on a path that has spanned, to date, nearly 20 years of dedicated service to her community.
From Volunteer to Qualified Instructor
After qualifying as a CFR, Hilary completed her first First Aid at Work (FAW) course and never looked back. Over the years she built up hands-on experience providing medical cover at events, dealing with a wide range of real-world illnesses and injuries — the kind of experience that can’t be taught in a classroom alone.
Through her work with the CFR team, Hilary also began delivering CPR and defibrillator (AED) training to members of the public, helping to create a more prepared and confident community.
A Trustee & Local Hero
Hilary is proud to serve as a Team Leader of Horsham Community Responders, reflecting her long-standing commitment to the scheme that started it all. Her contribution to the community has been recognised with the prestigious West Sussex County Times / Horsham District Council - Local Hero Award — a testament to the difference she continues to make.
Her Approach
Hilary believes that first aid skills belong in everyone’s hands. Whether in the workplace, at an event, or out in the community, her goal is simple: to make sure people feel confident and ready when it matters most.
